Steel Sheets at Collier Metals

Steel sheet is one of the most versatile and widely used materials in manufacturing and construction. At Collier Metals, we supply a variety of steel sheet products to distributors, service centers, and fabricators who depend on reliable inventory and consistent processing.

We manufacture and process sheets in hot rolled, hot rolled pickled and oiled (HRPO), galvanized, and cold rolled finishes. Each type of steel sheet offers different benefits depending on the application — whether it's strength, surface finish, or corrosion resistance.

Types of Steel Sheet We Offer

  • Hot Rolled Sheet: Produced at high temperatures and left with a scaled surface, hot rolled sheet is ideal for structural and industrial uses where appearance isn’t critical. It’s often used in fabrication, welded structures, and general manufacturing.

  • HRPO (Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled): This sheet begins as hot rolled steel and then undergoes a pickling process to remove scale, followed by the application of a protective oil coating. The result is a cleaner surface that’s easier to work with and better suited for painting or coating.

  • Galvanized Sheet: Galvanized sheets are coated with a layer of zinc to provide corrosion resistance. These are commonly used in outdoor applications, HVAC systems, and environments where moisture exposure is a factor.

  • Cold Rolled Sheet: Cold rolled sheet is produced at room temperature for improved surface finish, tighter tolerances, and enhanced strength. It’s commonly used for precision parts, appliances, and exposed metal applications.

How Steel Sheets Are Processed from Coil

Most of the steel sheets we supply start as master coils, which are large rolls of flat steel produced by the mill. These coils are then processed in-house at our Atlanta facility to match customer specifications.

Here's how the process works:

  • Uncoiling: The steel coil is loaded onto an uncoiler and gradually fed into the line.

  • Leveling: The material passes through a leveler to remove coil set and ensure flatness.

  • Cut-to-Length: The coil is then cut into individual sheets based on the desired length. This method offers a flexible alternative to buying pre-sheared mill sheets.

  • Shearing (when needed): For precise width adjustments or smaller pieces, we can shear the sheet after it’s been cut from coil.

Processing from coil allows us to supply non-standard lengths, reduce material waste, and provide better turnaround for projects that don’t fit standard stock sheet sizes. It’s a key part of how we meet the needs of both high-volume and custom jobs.

How We Support Sheet Customers

At our Atlanta facility, we keep inventory of standard sheet sizes and offer custom processing to fit your needs. Whether you’re stocking for resale or using it in fabrication, we aim to be a reliable and flexible partner.

Our team works closely with customers to understand lead times, specs, and production demands — making sure you get what you need, when you need it.
